“In the end, what matters most is that the rhythms of your heart sync with those of your partner.”

NEW: Mini Marathon
Couples Therapy
Are you time-poor? Looking to fast-track your relationship progress? Whether you’re stuck in a rut, navigating a relationship crisis, or want to kick off 2025 as a stronger, healthier couple, the NEW Mini Marathon Couples Therapy is an excellent option. The Mini-Marathon is a shorter one-day version of the original highly successful Marathon Couples Therapy.
Marathon versions of couples therapy are an excellent option for those who are looking to fast-track their relationship progress.
Couples opt for Marathon Therapy to address a variety of issues, including emotional disengagement, power struggles, communication difficulties, extramarital affairs, and more. Marathon Therapy, as a dynamic alternative to traditional counselling, is especially beneficial for couples with busy schedules, those living far from a Gottman-trained therapist, or those in need of immediate, intensive support.
At Hopeful Counselling, we take pride in providing the renowned and transformative Gottman Relationship Therapy. The Gottman method is an evidence-based form of couples therapy, based on over 40 years’ research by Drs John and Julie Gottman on what makes relationships work.
Ready to transform your relationship? Join our Mini-Marathon Couples Therapy on the stunning Gold Coast in Miami, Australia—a soothing setting to strengthen your connection and build a healthier, more fulfilling future together.
Note: This new format is only being offered for a limited time. January & Febuary 2025 only.
Why Choose the Mini-Marathon Rather than the Original Marathon Option?
Many couples may not have the flexibility for two full consecutive days to complete the original two-day marathon or may not have the financial means. The Mini-Marathon offers a condensed alternative, covering approximately half of the content (around 6 hours instead of 12), completed in a single day.
However, it’s important to understand that this one-day option is not a complete therapy solution. Ongoing fortnightly sessions will still be necessary to build on the work started during the marathon. The Mini-Marathon incorporates about 6 of the 8-12 sessions typically recommended in the Gottman method, providing a strong foundation but not the entirety of the therapeutic process.
Key Benefits of the Mini-Marathon Therapy
It is an excellent choice for those in need of immediate intensive support or looking to kick-start their progress.
Ideal for couples who are time-poor and cannot commit to weekly/fortnightly sessions on an ongoing basis
It’s a great option for couples seeking to see swift change occur in the relationship due to feeling stuck or hopeless about the relationship
Great for couples who want intensive therapy but don’t live in the vicinity of a therapist who uses the Gottman Method
There is time and space to process past injuries that may have never been healed and explore how those injuries are affecting the relationship
You will learn and practice new, healthier communication skills to help you have more productive conversations
Couples who have engaged in this form of therapy usually describe it as life-changing and transformative
The Mini-Marathon Experience
The Mini-Marathon takes place over one day, with up to 6 hours of therapy, including plenty of breaks to keep your energy up! (Plus, we’ll provide treats to help keep things going).
Marathon Therapy is structured into three essential phases:
Assessment Phase: Prior to your mini-marathon, you will complete a 2-hour online survey known as the Gottman Relationship Checkup. This survey is a crucial step, allowing your therapist to customise the therapy to address your specific relationship needs. You will receive a PDF version of your report, which will be thoroughly explained during your Mini-Marathon.
Treatment Phase Part 1: Marathon Couples Therapy kicks off with a focused one-day session, starting with a comprehensive assessment. Following the assessment, couples will dive into therapeutic interventions, tackling key issues that were identified.
Treatment Phase Part 2: Therapy doesn’t end with the Mini-Marathon! While it’s a powerful kick-start toward progress, additional sessions are needed to continue the work. Typically, you can expect 2-8 more sessions following the Mini-Marathon to fully build on the progress made.
